Who Dat Spirit: Giving Back on Game Day
Service Hours Completed: 7 hours
This November, I had the absolute joy of volunteering at the legendary Caesars Superdome during the epic Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons game. As a Roving Salesclerk, I spent my day walking through the stadium, selling raffle tickets to fans, soaking in the electric energy, and contributing to two amazing causes: the Second Harvest Food Bank and initiatives for Veterans.
Let me tell you, the Superdome is an experience in itself. From the moment I stepped inside, it was like being part of something bigger—fans decked out in black and gold, the chants of “Who Dat,” and the kind of excitement that gives you goosebumps. Armed with a point-of-sale device, I was on a mission to sell raffle tickets, raising money for causes that really make a difference.
And guess what? I managed to sell $795 worth of tickets! The proceeds were split between fighting hunger and supporting our Veterans. Knowing that every ticket I sold was going to help someone in need made the day even more meaningful.
The Cherry on Top
Oh, and did I mention the Saints won? Watching the crowd erupt when the final score was announced was unreal. It felt like the whole city was celebrating together. There’s something magical about how sports can unite people, and I was so proud to be a part of that energy, even in a small way.
This experience wasn’t just fun—it was fulfilling. As a student in the Tulane Master's of Pharmacology program, I’ve learned that being part of the community is just as important as academic achievements. The program encourages us to engage with the world around us, and this was the perfect opportunity to do just that.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the grind of classes and studying, but stepping out to give back reminded me of why I chose this path in the first place. Empathy and service are at the heart of healthcare—and sometimes, they show up in unexpected places, like a football game!
I’ve always enjoyed stepping out into the community through volunteering. Life is so much more than just work and school, and experiences like this remind me of the importance of balance. Volunteering not only connects me to the community but also allows me to give back in ways that feel meaningful and personal. I truly appreciate that the Pharmacology Program encourages us to choose our own volunteer experiences, giving us the freedom to align our efforts with causes we’re passionate about.
