April Showers of Growth, May Flowers of Promise: Running, Volunteering & Festivals

Service Hours Completed: 18 hours

Cumulative Spring Semester Service Hours: 27 hours

April was full of movement... literally and in spirit! Between volunteering at the French Quarter Festival and running my very first 10K race, this month left me feeling energized and grateful.

🏃🏽‍♀️ Crescent City Classic: She’s a Runner, she’s a track star

One of my biggest personal wins this month was running in the Crescent City Classic 10K with Rhea. This was my first ever race, let alone doing a 10K! I haven’t run seriously since high school but crossing that finish line felt surreal. The energy of the crowd, the live music, people giving out beer, and the camaraderie of the runners made the experience unforgettable. It reminded me of how important it is to challenge yourself and celebrate every milestone, no matter how big or small.

🎷 French Quarter Fest Volunteering

I also had the pleasure of volunteering at French Quarter Festival with some classmates for practically the entire festival. It was one of those weekends that reminds you just how magical New Orleans can be

  • Thursday: I was a Survey Taker, helping collect data from festival attendees. We roamed around the Jax Lot area, engaging with visitors and getting a behind-the-scenes view of how festivals run so smoothly.

  • Saturday: I helped at the Abita beer station, pouring beer and keeping the lines moving while enjoying the sounds of live music in the background. 🍻

Sunday: I wrapped up the weekend by volunteering in the Chevron Children's STEM Zone at the Natchez Wharf. I assisted with hands-on STEM activities for kids, talked with parents, and helped keep the space organized and welcoming. It was inspiring to see so many young minds light up with curiosity and creativity. This was a special moment because I’ve always loved STEM, so assisting in an area I love made it even more special.

  • 📚 Wrapping Up

In class this month, we didn’t cover any new modules. Instead, we focused on preparing for our cumulative Medical Pharmacology final exam, which tested us on everything we’ve learned throughout the year. Our other classes continued as normal, and we wrapped up the semester with final presentations and our last Cell Control Exam.

This semester has truly flown by. I can’t believe we’re done 🥹 It’s such a bittersweet feeling because I’m going to miss my classmates and learning, but I’m going to enjoy this break of studying! 😅 I’m so grateful for all the knowledge I’ve gained, the experiences I’ve had, and the memories I’ve made. I’m excited to see how everything I’ve learned this year will shape my journey moving forward.

    🌟 Looking Ahead

As my time as a master’s student comes to a close, this year and especially April reminded me how important it is to stay involved, challenge yourself, and stay rooted in your community. Whether I was running through the streets or handing out surveys, every moment felt like a reminder of how vibrant life in New Orleans truly is. I can’t wait to see what May brings! Signing off for now, see you soon Tulane!

Thank you to my amazing classmates, supportive professors, and of course Miss Linda and Dr. Clarkson!

With love and hope for the future,
Terriona Green, Pharmacology MS Graduate, Class of 2025
